I’ve noticed that people are either “Vegas people” or not. When I mention visiting, I’m either greeted with a sneer and a “Really? Vegas?” or an ear to ear grin and an excited “Where are you staying? What shows are you seeing? What kind of gambling do you do??”
After seven trips to Las Vegas, I’ve officially decided – I am a total Vegas person. You’ll likely find me at 70, still downing gin and tonics and throwing dice at the craps table. It’s a wonderful, unique place for several reasons – the people-watching, the gorgeous casinos, and my favorite part – the over the top, incredible food.
After landing mid-afternoon, my crew was starving and in need of a heart meal in a bad way. Though I’ve visited Gordon Ramsay’s BurGR in Planet Hollywood on my last two trips to Vegas, I branched out this time.
We didn’t stray too far, though. We went across the street to one of Chef Ramsay’s other restaurants: Pub & Grill at Caesar’s Palace.
The decor of the restaurant can only be described as an Anglophile’s heaven. There’s Union Jacks, kegs, and English Bulldogs motifs scattered throughout the place. Take a seat on one of the several cushy couches around and order a pint while you take it all in.
We were lucky enough to get a seat with a view.
Our seat was also conveniently right by the kitchen exit, so we stuck our heads up like meerkats every time a new dish was brought out, which heavily influenced our choices. We started off with hot pretzel sticks and beer cheese – it’s off the menu, but go ahead and ask for them! They’re delicious.
Of course, while at a pub, I couldn’t help but order fish and chips. I have such fond memories of that dish. It takes me back to my first visit to the UK when I was 16, where I first tried mushy peas – and hated them (still do) and ate tons of fresh, crispy cod fried to absolute perfection and doused in malt vinegar. The cod here is mega crunchy and piping hot, and the chips are phenomenal as well. This dish is HUGE, so come hungry or plan to split.
Jamie went with the lamb burger, topped with feta and goat cheese spread, slaw, and pickled onions.
This was served with thin-cut fries instead of the fat chips that came with my fish. For some reason, I just love when restaurants serve their fries in newspaper like this. I think it’s kitschy and adorable. The fries were served with a to-die-for truffle mayo, perhaps my favorite fry sauce.
Stuffed to the brim, we passed on dessert this time. But don’t worry, we ended up eating sticky toffee pudding later on our trip. Stay tuned for that post!
Bellies full and hearts happy to be in this wonderful city, we wandered across the street to The Cromwell (best casino on the strip, hands down) to try our luck at the tables.
